Renewing their counterattack US forces push down the Rocky Mountains. The Russians fearing a major loss in the east fire a tactical nuke on Las Vegas the current logistics point for the Eastern front. Due to technilogical innovation a new missile defense system is created to target orbital missiles and low orbit scud launches. The system is nicknamed Sanctuary. Realizing they no longer have the means to counterattack the Russians go completely on the defensive. Us forces press to Sacramento Causing the path to Santa Maria and San Francisco to open. Meanwhile Russian forces break through the Avila line and push into Santa Maria. The residents fight street by street making wreckage barricades and laying booby traps. The Rangers are intent on giving them hell as long as possible. There is no retreat. They hole up in Pacific Christian church with the last of the refugees and militia. They cordon off the hill with the hulls of damaged vehicles, and they place armor plates from the destroyed humvees and tanks in the windows of the church. They place IED's on the main roads leading to the church and place an antitank battery on the east window to cover Highway 101. the building is bombarded for one day by artillery and is still standing by nights fall. The Russians attack in the night. They pelt their positions with heavy MG's and RPG fire. AK-47's make swiss cheese of the civilian cars. Women and children cry at the alter as the minister says a prayer. Tanks blow chunks of rubble from the inner sanctuary walls. The Russians charge in forcing a melee. Ammo reserves were running dry anyway. At the darkest moment dawn breaks and the beliguered defenders look north hearing engines. fearing the bombs about to drop they brace for the end, but none come. The Russians retreat from the church and the rangers and militia push outside to behold the greatest sight theyve ever seen. Instead of bombers they are C-130's dropping the 82nd Airborne. they fire their rifles while they drop and gunships crest the horizon behind them. Missiles rain on the tanks on the highway and the russian assault is broken. The garrison force cheers as they see the Russians in full retreat. they hug each other and pat each other on the back. the leader of the remaining survivors Captain Aaron openly weeps in front of his men. Santa Maria was theirs, but looking at the rubble there was nothing left to defend.
this is part two of an unknown number story. im coming up with more every day but i fear the battles of the west will be coming to a close soon and ill need to expand to the rest of the world.
